At a short Monday Wright County Supervisors meeting, Public Health Director Sandy McGrath shared some good news on the COVID-19 front. In the last week, there were only 27 new cases. This is a drastic decline from over 170 in one week last month. She added that the county now sits at 3,574 overall cases. The vaccination rate is 56%. McGrath said that public health has given over 17,600 doses of vaccine. She still encourages people to get vaccinated or boosted.
In his secondary roads update, Engineer Adam Clemons told the board that there has been interest from a couple parties about purchasing a county bridge in Boone Township. The bridge is no longer sound and is an expense for the county. Clemons will look into how the process of selling the bridge would go. He added that the Highway 69 bridge projects are still underway and though they are extremely behind schedule, he has been informed they should be completed by the end of March.
In the open forum section, Bob Ritter asked the board about pipeline updates from the state supervisors meeting they attended last week. Supervisor Dean Kluss said that the company who is planning the pipeline that is intended to go through Wright County, Summit Carbon Solutions, had paid to be a sponsor at the meeting. Company executives gave a presentation at the meeting but did not take questions. Kluss added that the company again painted a “very rosy picture” of the pipeline and said that “hundreds” of landowners were agreeing to terms with the company for easements. Ritter called the price he was offered for his land from the company “pitiful” and added that it was not “fair and equitable.”
