Literacy activities for families with young children coming to Rowan

Activities and family time combine for learning and fun in the introductory session of Raising School Ready Readers program coming to Rowan in April.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Wright County Office and the Rowan Public Library are offering a session of the family literacy program, Raising School Ready Readers, for parents and children ages 3-6.

“We know parents with children this age often wonder how to get their child on a path to be successful in school and become a good reader,” says Missy Loux, Program Coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach Wright County Office. “We are excited to share this program because it helps busy parents discover simple ways to help turn everyday routines and experiences into learning opportunities for reading and writing skills.”

The Raising School Ready Readers program can help parents prepare their children to succeed in school and gain independence while having fun together as a family.

“The kids really love coming to the sessions because they play games and spend time with their parents, while parents are learning and practicing easy techniques to help their children become successful readers and writers,” says Loux.

This one session introduction to the 5-week Raising School Ready Readers series will be held on Saturday, April 23rd from 10am-11:30am at the Rowan Community Center.  The program is free; registration is required by April 15th.  To register, contact Missy Loux at 515-532-3453 or louxm@iastate.edu.  Thank you to the Rowan Public Library, First Bank in Clarion, and Rowan Lions Club for sponsorship of this family fun literacy event!
