2022 Golf Pre-Season Outlooks
CGD Boys Golf coach Pat O’Brien previews the upcoming season
This season is a highly anticipated season. We see ourselves being able to compete with most teams that we will face. We have worked our way through the year. Like everyone else, we could have really used that “COVID” year for experience but with only one senior last year on the team, these boys were able to experience competition amongst themselves for positions on the team as well as competing against others at different courses. We feel that this experience will be an advantage for us.
Our conference always seems to be one of the most competitive in the state and I expect that to continue. We think we should be able to stay with anyone if we improve our short game and put in some time improving our mental game.
We are blessed to have the facilities that we have. Clarmond Country Club, Oakridge, and Dows have always been very receptive to what we are trying to accomplish. They have realized the benefits that can eventually come with being so generous. Our school has also been very supportive of our golf teams. We have very nice indoor and outdoor facilities for many years and we are excited to be able to have the new Augusta National #12 replica being built in the new softball/baseball/golf complex.
Returning Letterwinners are Elic Fjetland, Jacob Moore, Cale Kirstein,
Jackson Beisel, Colin Kirstein.

We are so excited for the upcoming season. It is an honor to get the opportunity to coach this great group of young women. We have a very large team of eight seniors, four sophomores and five freshmen. Five members of the team are returning letter winners. This team is a lot of fun and extremely hardworking and eager to learn the game. I am extremely excited to watch them improve and grow as the year goes on.
This team has a lot of raw talent which we are working to fine tune. We have a lot of depth which will allow them to push each other every single day to get better. Short game and course management are going to be integral in our success and will be focal points this year as they are the quickest ways to improve scores. We know the North Central Conference is full of talent and we are excited to show that we can be competitive throughout the season.
The facilities available to us will be an integral part of their development. It is a rare opportunity that a school has multiple courses at their disposal to learn on. We are extremely thankful to Oak Ridge, Clarmond, and Dows for allowing us to practice at their courses.
Returning players with Varsity experience include Emily Christensen, Karina Torres, Lauren Brooks, Delia Swanson and Sawyer Morrical.
2022 Track Pre-Season Outlooks
CGD Girls Track Coach Monty Harker previews the upcoming season
This is one of the smallest teams I have ever had. But I guess we have quality over quantity this year. A couple of seniors that have been out all four years and then some good juniors minus a couple that have had injury problems. The sophomores are half runners and half throwers. And then we have a smaller group of freshmen that are off to a very good start.
We have been to three indoor meets and have placed things in two of them. Our strengths are probably our sprinters and hurdlers which make up the largest of our group. We will have some good field events also with Ella Tewes and Ellie Mewes throwing, Kennedy Trca long jumping, and Makayla Beisel high jumping. Everyone else will probably be in combinations of events and relays they may not have run before since we will be very limited in the number of events we can enter in a meet.
So far, they have started off with some very good work and running very good against schools our size. This is the first time we have had a spring break in the middle of our practice season so we will see what kind of new things that causes.
Our first meet will be April 7 and then we’ll be busy from there.
CGD Boys Track Coach Ben Lindaman previews the upcoming season
We have better numbers than the past few years. We only have two returning seniors in Nick Carpenter and Connor State. However, we gained a few others for a total of five seniors. We have eight Juniors, eight Sophomores, and nine freshmen. So we are still a young group. We have 3 of the 4 state shuttle hurdle relay participants returning this year in Nevan Foss, Preston Gardner, and Connor State. It will be good competition to fill the empty spot. We will miss Isaiah Nebbe, who was also a state participant in the 2-mile last year. We are still looking for more depth in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter events.
I’m excited to see what our field events can do this year. We are still young in all field events. Sophomore Mason Allen has shown good improvement early on in the discus. I’m excited to see what he can do. Nick Sisson leads the shot put group and Nevan Foss in the High Jump. We have a lot of interest in the long jump as well.
I’m excited for some good weather so we can get on the track for some better practices and meets. It’s always easier to fill out the lineup when you have more depth like we do this year.
