Last week, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Elementary Lighthouse team helped organize a fun event at the school. They planned and invited business and community members to Leadership Day. The Lighthouse team is essentially the elementary’s equivalent to a student council where students are chosen to be the voice of the school.
The Lighthouse Team planned the leadership day to showcase not only their group but also other groups and activities that exemplify the Leader in Me initiatives. The Spark Cooking Club is one of those groups that got involved in the day by sharing a snack with visitors that they prepared themselves.
The first-grade class shared a couple songs during Leadership Day. They sang “One Light, One Sun” and “Riding in an Airplane” by Raffi. Student artwork which can be seen in the lower part of the photo was displayed throughout the school for visitors to enjoy as well. Photo by Bridget Shileny
Students also shared their leadership binders with guests that display what they’ve been learning. School Counselor Sarah Kakacek said she is happy that elementary students have a chance to be leaders in the school in various ways in and out of the classroom. “We see genius in all kids and that doesn’t come only through book knowledge,” emphasized Kakacek. “We are building well-rounded students.”
