TAG quiz bowl team takes 8th place in national contest

Recently, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows fifth grade Talented and Gifted (TAG) team won eighth place in the United States in the Spring Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl. This is the second year the school has participated in the contest.

The quiz bowl tests are online computer contests of 100 multiple-choice questions. Areas covered include math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information and just plain fun trivia. It is meant to be a team activity with all takers around one computer.

According to TAG Director Tanja Jensen, the students have been preparing for weeks. “We had been practicing from past quiz bowl questions for six weeks, doing questions and answering in different ways until we found the most effective way for the group to answer quickly,” she said. “The students were dedicated to practicing and are a very competitive group.”

“I was so impressed with how they worked as a team and effectively shared their knowledge with others,” added Jensen. “These students are just amazing!”
