The Annual Rowan Fun Day (RFD) is schedule for Saturday, June 4th on Main Street in Rowan. This year’s theme is “Rockin’ Rowan”.
“After a two-year hiatus, Rowan Fun Day is back and the schedule is filled with the events that everyone loves.”, says Groom, the event organizer. The day begins with the traditional Rowan Lions Club Pancake Breakfast and continues into the afternoon with many of the activities that have been favorites from the past.
The Pancake Flip is always popular among young and old alike. The event requires a team of two. One is the flipper the other is the catcher. The flipper hurls a pancake over a badminton net and the catcher has to catch the cake on the plate. The team that is able to flip and catch the most pancakes is the winner. Randy and Marcia Burt are the reigning champions and rumor has it that they will be back this year for more!
A new event this year will be the Free Throw Contest for young people ages 10-13 and 14-17. The winner of each age group will receive a new basketball. Another favorite is the Money and Prize Scramble for kids of all ages. Approximately $30 worth of coins and many prizes will be tossed in a pile of straw and kids can scramble to see what they can find. Big Bubbles, a Balloon Twister, Belt Sander Races and Water Balloon Toss will also be part of the activities.
There will be a Bake Sale, a Cake Walk and the Kid’s Power Pedal Tractor Pull. At 11:00 p.m. the Iowa River Players will be presenting a puppet theater on the Main Street Stage and Iris Eriksen will be telling stories from the past on the stage too. The afternoon will end with a 50/50 Raffle drawing (ticket holders must be present to win) and an auction. The auction is to win the honor of throwing a pie in the face of the Rowan mayor. Highest bidder wins the opportunity.
