Cowboys baseball starts the season with a 2-2 week

                The Cowboys were on the road for their season opener against the North Iowa Bison last Monday. The inaugural game was hopefully a sign of things to come for the season.

                The ‘boys put two runs on the scoreboard in the second inning and the four more in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the meantime, they shut out the Bison for a final score of 10-0.

                Nevan Foss led the team by getting three hits, with 2 doubles and 1 single for a 1.000 batting average. He crossed the plate twice and had 2 RBIs. Sophomore Mason Allen also had two RBIs. Cael Chase handled most of the pitching and racked up eight strikeouts.

                The next night, Coach Ryan Nail’s boys had a big night on Tuesday in their home opener against the Southeast Valley Jaguars. The Cowboys bats started to sing in the second inning when the team came across Homeplate twice. In the third, they put up two more runs and then five and four more in the fourth and fifth innings respectively. The Jaguars only managed 3 runs against the Cowboys solid defense for a final score of 13-3.

                Game leaders on Tuesday were Allen with three hits, including a home run. He scored two runs and got one RBI. Foss also had three hits, one run and four RBIs. Pitcher Porter Chase had six strikeouts.

                The rest of the week proved more challenging for the Cowboys. On Wednesday, they took on the South Hardin Tigers at home. The Tigers got out to a lead with two runs in the first inning. The home team would put two runs on the scoreboard in the third inning and two more in the fifth and one in the sixth. In the end, CGD couldn’t overcome a tough South Hardin team and lost 9-5.

                For game leaders, Cael Chase had one hit, one run and one RBI. Thane Jackson pitched three innings and had six strikeouts.

                On Friday, the Cowboys played a close one at home against Forest City. Though the ‘boys scored nine runs, the Indians had a big second inning, getting six runs across the plate and scoring 11 in the end.

                Thane Jackson led the team with three hits, three RBIs and three stolen bases. Cael Chase pitched five strikeouts for the team.
