Cowboys Baseball was also stymied by the weather a bit last week. Tuesday’s game against Eagle Grove and Wednesday’s against Hampton-Dumont-CAL were both postponed due to weather. (The EG game will be played on June 9th at 5:30, JV followed by varsity and the Hampton game on June 13 as a double header in Hampton.)
They started off the week, getting in a game against the Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets. The Midgets came up big, steadily putting runs on the board throughout the whole game, winning 11-1. CGD’s only run came in the third inning when Caden Hankins crossed the plate on an RBI from Cael Chase.
Game leaders were Cael Chase with 1 hit and 1 RBI for a .500 batting average. Mason Allen pitched 5 strikeouts in 3 innings pitched.
On Friday, Nail’s boys traveled to Algona for run fest of a game against the Bulldogs. Algona was steadying putting up runs and had 11 on the board through the fifth inning to the Cowboy’s three but the ‘boys came roaring back with a huge sixth inning with eight runs. They couldn’t quite overcome the Eagles in the end, losing 11-12. Game leaders were Cael Chase with 2 hits, 1 run and 2 RBIs. Carson Nesheim had 2 strikeouts in 3 innings.
On Monday, the Cowboys played a Memorial Day game at home against the West Hancock Eagles. Thanks to a huge second inning by Eagles where they racked up 10 runs, it was a rout for the away team as they beat the Cowboys 13-3. No stats were available by press time for this game.
