Eagle Grove's 100 Women Who Care chapter is one of over 700 "100 Who Care" groups around the world. The first 100 who care group was formed by Jackson, Michigan's Karen Dunigan in 2008, according to the group's website. 100 Who Care groups are "giving circles", where each member donates a specific amount of money at regular intervals, which are then gifted to worthy causes and individuals.
In Eagle Grove, the 100 Women Who Care group focuses on collecting funds from local women, and giving those funds to worthy women in the community, giving them a leg up financially in hard times. The group meets quarterly at the Rails Depot, in what is both a good cause, and a fun night out. Each member donates $100 per meeting.
Presently, Eagle Grove's group has a membership just shy of fifty, putting them halfway to their goal of one hundred or more members. The more members the group has, the more good it can do.
The group has now made several large donations to worthy local women. "The recipients have been so happy and grateful for what we've been able to do," said group member Ann Sampson.
The group's latest award was made in mid February to Kaycee Busma, who received $3,700 collected at the group's January meeting. The group is planning their next meeting for Wednesday, April 26th at 6:00 pm, at the Rails Depot. Area women interested in joining are welcome and encouraged to attend. No donation is required until one formally joins the group.
