Dow’s Corn Days unofficially started Saturday morning with the town’s parade. Bill and Barb Chambers of Dows led the route. Those familiar with the small community of Dows and those who are not were able to meet in the town park after the parade. In true Corn Days fashion, there was a sweet corn feed and watermelon to quench everyone’s thirst after the delicious treat. Children ran free in the fenced park while adults watched close by. Various events were sponsored by volunteers and employers in our area. The support of those in Dows and outside of Dows helps the community of 512 stay relevant when a lot of Iowa’s small communities are fading out. Live country music by Jack Wibholm and children’s laughter filled the background of lively conversations on the beautiful Saturday. The event highlighted what is best about Iowa’s small-town life, community.
