Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Community School Proposes Higher Tax Rate

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Community School District has announced a proposed property tax levy for the fiscal year 2025. The CGD Board of Education held a public hearing on March 27, 2024, welcoming public feedback. No citizens addressed the board.

The proposed tax levy outlines allocations of different funds within the district into categories: General Fund, Instructional Support, Management, Amana Library, Physical Plant and Equipment, Reorganization Equalization, Public Education/Recreation/Playground, and Debt Service.

The proposed property tax rate for the fiscal year 2025 represents an increase compared to the current year's levy. The total levy rate is expected to increase from 13.50253 to 13.53693.

This change reflects a decrease in property taxes for both residential and commercial properties, with a notable decrease of 15.04% for properties valued at $100,000.

The adjustment comes amid challenges faced by the district, including declining student enrollment and rising property, and liability costs. The Board of Education is expected to publish a second notice with a second hearing on the budget to follow.
