Iowa Specialty Hospitals Moves to Outdoor Clinic for Respiratory Illnesses

As Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics monitors the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation closely, they continue to implement new procedures and protocols.

Starting March 19, 2020, Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics began offering an outdoor clinic under the main entrance canopy at the Belmond location for individuals presenting with symptoms of respiratory illness.  Having all testing done in one location protects patients and staff and also helps preserve equipment that will be needed as the COVID-19 outbreak worsens.

What to know about the temporary outdoor clinic:

  • For patients with a cough, shortness of breath*, or other respiratory illness symptoms only
  • Patients must have an appointment to the outdoor clinic. Appointments are made by calling 844-474-4321 and asking for respiratory triage.
  • Patients will be triaged over the phone and given instructions if needing to be seen
  • Currently available Monday – Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Patients will be seen by a provider for evaluation of their respiratory symptoms, but will not have a complete physical exam and no other problems can be addressed
  • If necessary, prescriptions can be written and testing, including COVID-19 testing, will be completed if appropriate
  • All other patients will be seen at the family medicine clinics

Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics would like to emphasize this temporary clinic is for those individuals who have the respiratory symptoms described above.

*Please note: If an individual is having shortness of breath that seems severe or life-threatening, they should be seen in an emergency room.

Clinic Appointment Restrictions

Iowa Specialty Hospital has also implemented the following appointment restrictions for all clinic locations:*

  • Adults should attend their appointments alone.*
  • *When not possible, adults are limited to one other accompanying adult.
  • Obstetric patients are limited to one other accompanying adult.

ISH appreciates your patience and understanding as everyone works together through this time period.
