Brief Council Meeting Leads to Tour of Clarion’s New Water Processing Facility

The latest Clarion City Council meeting, held on April 23rd, saw a quick meeting that ended in a tour of the new water processing facility.

Mayor Heiden led the meeting with council members, Dave Flurer, Dan Hennigar, Shayne Hennigar, Nick McOllough, and Mike Ennis. City Administrator Clint Middleton, Police Chief Steve Terhark, and Director of Public Works Jon DeVries were also present.

The consent agenda covered approving minutes from previous meetings, financials, and a road closure for a Christian Concert at 1st Ave NW on June 1st. Casey’s tobacco license was approved along with building permits for Matul’s garage, Baccam’s shed, and a fence for the Kapkas.

The council held the public hearing for the FY25 budget. There was no public feedback. The council officially approved the budget.

Advice from the Hotel Motel Grant Committee to award Grand View Beef with funds was acted on. While Grand View Beef is located outside of city limits, it can take advantage of the grant because of its involvement in the local chamber, Clarion Development Alliance. Middleton shared with the council the grant money will allow the free-range beef producers to purchase equipment for their now annual dinner.

During city reports, Middleton shared that the city’s accounting software will soon be moving to a cloud-based format. He expressed concerns about the efficiency of the update but did not consider Clarion to be forced into updating in the very near future.

Discussion moved onto electric bikes and a concern over the speed of traffic on the North end of town. The group then toured the future water treatment plant. The next meeting will be on May 7 at 5:00 P.M. in the City Chambers.
