Tractors were the topic of conversation as 43 people arrived by tractors to visit the Heartland Museum on Father’s Day.
The ride, coordinated by Mark Burres of Eagle Grove, was on the eighth year of rides. Burres said the ride, the Annual Thor Tractor Ride, had been to a different location each year, including Lake Cornelia and Dolliver Park. 31 tractors arrived shortly before noon. Riders enjoyed a meal from Pizza Ranch before touring the museum.
When asked why Father’s Day, one rider quipped, “It’s Father's Day, so Father should be able to do what he wants!” A few ladies and children were also along. Sarah Rasmussen said for her, it was a family gathering as her dad and uncle were there. Riders came from all over central Iowa, with Thor being the starting point.
The tractors were a mix of different makes, with John Deere green being prevalent. This was followed by International/Farmall red, and there was one yellow John Deere and one gray Ford. The tractors were all older, most from the 1950s through the 1970s. None had cabs, although a few were equipped with tractor umbrellas. The sun was out, there was a nice breeze, and it was the perfect day for a tractor ride through central Iowa.
