Bids for courthouse and professional building repairs higher than anticipated

During their regular meeting on Monday, the Wright County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on the bids for the courthouse and professional building roof repair. Representatives from Allers and Associates Architects out of Fort Dodge said that two bids had been received, which is fewer than they had hoped for. Sadler Construction out of Eagle Grove was the low bid at around $619,000. Terry Allers noted that this was significantly higher than the estimate of around $517,00 for the project. He chalked this up to it being an unusual time with coronavirus and companies concerned about material shortages. Auditor Betty Ellis noted that there had been no comments sent from the public. The board went with the Sadler Construction bid.

The board took action on the drainage ditch brush, tree and weed control that Joe Harrah presented them with last week. They approved a two-year proposal for Harrah to work on around 180 miles of ditch control for approximately $102,000.

In other action, they approved a levy for a joint drainage district with Hamilton County for repairs and improvements. Wright County’s share will be about $5,300. The auditor’s office will send letters to affected landowners in the county. The board approved a change order for $10,330 for construction mats at the Agri-Business Park site.

Wright County Environmental Health Director Sandy McGrath reported that the county still only has one COVID-19 case as of early in the week. She added that she continues to hold daily meetings with the county supervisors, Board of Public Health, emergency management, law enforcement, city governments and Iowa Specialty Hospitals.
