Morgan Middleton up for Register award

Cowgirl volleyball incoming senior Morgan Middleton has achieved a number of accolades and records even before her final year, and now is in the running for a prestigious award.

She has been named as one of the finalists for the Des Moines Register’s High School Sports Awards, which is part of the USA Today Sports Awards Show. The event will be available to watch on a desktop or Smart device on Thursday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m. The show will shine a spotlight on the incredible accomplishments of the athletes, coaches and teams in the state and ensure that their hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed. Celebrity athletes are involved as presenters.

According to Middleton, she didn’t know about this until coach Katrina TerHark told her. “I was surprised!,” said Middleton. “I really wasn’t sure what it was so I checked their website. It’s fun to see names of girls I have played with, and against, on the list of nominees. I am grateful to be nominated, and honored to have the opportunity to be part of this ceremony. It’s hard to believe that I only have one more year left to make great memories with the best teammates! I know I wouldn’t have been nominated without them and I am so thankful for such a great group of friends to play with. I hope to have a ‘normal’ volleyball season this fall, and to be able to spend as much time with them as possible to see what we can accomplish together.”

The team is a two-time state qualifier, and will be led by a strong senior class in trying for a three-peat trip to Cedar Rapids this posteason.

“The nominees and winners are selected by the sports department at the Register,” stated TerHark. “The nomination is attributed to Morgan’s work ethic, determination and drive. It’s an honor for her and her teammates to even be nominated for such a prestigious honor. She continually strives to learn more about how to better her game. Morgan demonstrates her passion and love for the game in a high energy fashion. It’s great to see all that hard work and time being rewarded.”
