In a game moved from Monday to Tuesday, the Cowgirl softball team gave a good effort before falling at Iowa Falls-Alden 3-2 to the home Cadets. Kendall Lienemann swung the big stick in going 2 for 4 and driving in both runs. Clarissa Hasty and Quinn Hansch both joined her at 2 for 4, with Clarissa crossing the plate once. Remi Johnson and Emma Schluttenhofer both reached on base hits, with Emma scoring the other run. Hasty and Lienemann each stole a base.
Alaina Friesleben allowed just one earned run on six hits in a decent effort in the circle that would have won most other nights. She walked only one and struck out two.
“We came out very aggressive on both offense and defense, and made the plays we needed to,” stated head coach Chace Pruismann. “The best thing about this game is we didn’t get down on ourselves but rose up and continued to have each other’s backs and took care of our individual jobs at hand. All the girls were hitting very well. Unfortunately, we just ran out of time.”
In a game on Wednesday at Rogers Park that was moved up in time, the ladies took a 13-3 loss from the St. Edmond Gaels. Lienemann and Paige Willey both singled and drove in a run each. C. Hasty, Johnson and Hannah Tew also had a base hit each, with C. Hasty, Lienemann and Johnson scoring the runs. Brooke Askelsen and Schluttenhofer drew a free pass each. C. Hasty, Lienemann, Johnson and Tew all grabbed a base each.
Askelsen threw 4.2 innings, allowing four earned on four hits with six walks given. Friesleben pitched the balance, allowing four earned on six hits with one strikeout.
“We started out with a 3-0 lead in the first. And unfortunately couldn’t hold onto that lead,” said Pruismann. “We had some missed opportunities here and there. We were still having good bats, but unfortunately dropping them into the hands of the defense. Playing two games in 16 hours with little rest makes it hard to stay focused. I’m proud of this group of girls.”
They finished the week with a trip to Clear Lake, losing 12-1 to the Lions in four innings. Courtney Harle smacked a double also scored the lone Cowgirl run. Lienemann, Johnson and Willey all reached on singles, while Askelsen drew a free pass to first in her only plate appearance. Lienemann stole a base.
Friesleben pitched the entire way, allowing two earned on 10 hits with a walk, a hit batter and one strikeout.
The team hosts Webster City this Wednesday.
