Last Wednesday the Cowgirls managed to snag a 3-2 win over West Fork in a home game. Paige Willey went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Courtney Harle 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Kendall Lienemann and Remi Johnson both reached on base hits and also drove in a run each. Quinn Hansch added two hits, while Brooke Askelsen and Hannah Tew each connection for a base hit to help the offensive attack. Clarissa Hasty and Harle stole two bags each, with Lienemann making one steal.
Alaina Friesleben earned the win, going the distance with two earned runs on four hits with one walk and four K’s.
“We played good softball,” stated head skipper Chace Pruismann. “We came out and scored in our half of the first, then the Warhawks fired right back to tie it after one. Both teams played very good defense. We rallied for two runs in the sixth, but they scored one in the seventh and got the last out. I couldn’t be more proud of this senior class. Our whole team wanted to get this win for them. To end the regular season with a win gives us a very big boost going into the offseason.”
Prior to that, the ladies struggled in all phases of their game in a 23-1 loss to Southeast Valley in three innings on Monday in Gowrie. Harle was 2 for 2 and scored the run courtesy of a Lienemann base hit. Willey made the only other connection at the plate. Harle stole a base.
“We have to maintain our focus on the pitching side,” said the coach. “We hit six batters in the first inning and they capitalized on all of our errors. Not to get it wrong, SEV is a very good team. They’re hard hitting and their pitcher throws hard. Our offense was once again on, we just hit it right back to their defense. Proud of the girls for not giving up and battling right to the end.”
