Though the thermometer pushed into the 90s last Friday and Saturday, things were still a little Ridiculous in Clarion. The annual Clarion Chamber sponsored event, Ridiculous Dayz featured crazy sales throughout town and even a few food trucks. Pictured, the Taco Shack (right), was cooking up ridiculously tasty taco, burritos and more, with the Twiins Ice Cream Shoppe offering treats to cool everyone down. Chamber Director Ali Disney said that this is the first Chamber retail event for several months as other regular events were canceled due to the COVID pandemic. On Friday, from her own store, Italics Boutique, she also reported that it was turning into one of the busiest Ridiculous Dayz she had seen for a few years.
In addition to the regular Clarion retailers offering crazy deals, a few vendors got in on the Ridiculous event as well. According to a look back into the Monitor archives, Ridiculous Dayz in Clarion has a long history, going back to the early 1960s. An advertisement for the event in 1962 exclaimed, “There will be strange sights on the streets and in the various business places next week when merchants and townspeople will dress in Ridikalus outfits for Ridiculous Days in Clarion. Merchants will be offering goods to the buyers at Ridiklas prices,” (odd spellings from original ad). The event even used to feature a parade down Main Street. Photo by Bridget Shileny
