Clarion-Goldfield-Dows senior Indy Johnson has participated in many sports during her high school career, but the fall season has always held a special place in her heart.
“For me, volleyball holds a tremendous amount of my love and time,” she remarked during a December interview. “Growing up, I had two older sisters who also loved the sport. I would always look forward to going to their practices.”
When Indy got her turn in the spotlight, she quickly took on a critical role and turned into a good example for the next generation to look up to.
“It’s important to represent our program and inspire other young future Cowgirls to carry on our hard work,” said Johnson.
After another standout individual season, the setter/right side hitter/libero earned herself a second straight nod to the North Central Conference’s First Team All-Conference squad. As a sophomore, Johnson was named to the Second Team.
Johnson reached 1,000 career digs in a September 17 match vs. Eagle Grove, and ended her career with 1,290. This past season, she finished second in the NCC in total digs (427) and tenth in aces (27). Despite her towering list of personal achievements, Indy says the best moment from her senior year came when the Cowgirls beat Clear Lake in five sets.
As Johnson steps away from the volleyball program that brought her so much joy and success, she leaves one last piece of advice for the next batch of young players.
“Stay coachable and always try to better yourself!”
