Cowboys Finish Football Season in Style

Last Friday night in Iowa Falls, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows defense guided the way and the offense followed suit. Iowa Falls-Alden scored first, but CGD controlled the clock in the second half and came out of the scrum with their second win of the season.

Six minutes into the game, the Cadets were successful on their opening drive after quarterback Karsen Kalous and Levi Langfitt connected on a 15-yard TD pass. The Cowboy offense couldn’t respond, but a well-placed punt from JD Morrical backed IFA up on their own goal line. On first down, the Cowboy defense scored a safety when linebacker Daniel Juarez Gomez sacked Kalous.

Trailing 7-2 going into the 2nd quarter, defense would turn into offense once again for CGD. Lineman Bryce Lindaman scooped up an IF-A fumble and lumbered 28 yards for the first Cowboy touchdown of the night.

Later, Selvin Gonzalez had a few nice totes later in the 2nd quarter that put the Cowboys on the IF-A 1-yard line. Morrical finished what Gonzalez started and followed the offensive line into the end zone to give CGD the 15-7 advantage.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows received the kick after halftime, and on the first offensive play of the 2nd half, Morrical found favored target Huxley Lingenfelter for a 43-yard TD pass.

The Cadets wouldn’t get on the board again until late in the 4th quarter, and the Cowboys ended their year on a high note with a 24-13 victory.

Morrical completed 6 of his 12 passes for 121 yards and ran for another 27 yards. The sophomore finished with a passing TD, a rushing TD, and an interception. Lingenfelter snagged 3 passes and caught his third touchdown of the year.

Gonzalez had 25 carries for 131 yards, and Jacob Ruba caught 2 passes for 23 total yards.

Defensively, Lingenfelter finished with 8.5 tackles to bring his season total to 60, and Lindaman had 2 sacks to bring his season total to 9. Lindaman and Gonzalez both had 7 tackles on the night, and Juarez Gomez finished with 4 tackles and a sack.
