The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball team dismantled Eagle Grove in three sets last Tuesday to improve to 3-9 this season.
In the opening set, Claire Kirstein had the first kill for CGD. Another kill from Elliot Ennis would give the Cowgirls a 6-3 advantage. The feisty Eagles managed to tie the contest at 11, and even found a way to steal the lead for a few minutes, but CGD turned it around after an Indy Johnson kill and won the first set 25-21.
In the second set, the Cowgirls maintained a steady, 7-point lead throughout. Blaire Askelsen’s block made it 21-14 CGD, but the Eagles crawled back and cut the lead to three. Johnson had a kill and two crowd-silencing aces in the final moments of the set and helped CGD to a 25-18 victory.
Late in the third set, Kirstein had a key kill to give the Cowgirls a one-point lead, and on the deciding point, Ennis lightly tapped the ball over the net for a 27-25 Cowgirl win.
Ennis finished the match with 13 kills and 2 blocks. Johnson had an incredible night for the Cowgirls. Her 24 digs helped her surpass 1,000 career digs for her illustrious career, and she led the Cowgirls with 4 aces.
Harper Nerlien led CGD with 20 assists, and Jacqueline Kirstein came through with 6 kills.
