The Clarion City Council met on Tuesday, January 21 in the City Council Chambers. Mayor Rod Heiden began the meeting at 5:00 PM on the exceptionally cold evening, with temperatures plunging well into the negatives.
The council quickly moved through the agenda, notably approving a liquor license for Case Del Taco, payment of bills, and previous meeting minutes.
Hotel Motel Grant Recommendations
City Administrator Clint Middleton provided an overview of the recent Clarion Hotel Motel Board meeting, which reviewed grant applications with a quarterly fund balance of $15,825.94.
The Board suggested to the Council to approve $2,000 for benches and garbage bins for the Clarion Development Association (CDA) and $2,000 for children’s attractions at The Barn at Walton Farms. They also suggested that Wright County Community Connections receive $1,000 for business signage. A $1,000 request from the Iowa River Players was denied by the board as it did not meet grant parameters. The council followed the recommendations of the board, approving grant monies to be dispersed.
The next City Council meeting will be held on February 4 at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.
