Wildcats Quell Cowboy Comeback Attempt

A day after their dramatic win in Belmond, the 6-8 Cowboy basketball team hosted 8-4 Humboldt. After losing in a blowout to the Wildcats earlier this season, the Cowboys were looking to even the season series. They would keep the score much closer this time around, but a three-point barrage from Humboldt became too much to overcome.

In the 1st quarter, Bryce Lindaman and Chaz Lane both had offensive rebound putbacks for the Cowboys. JD Morrical checked into the game and quickly scored two off of a slick assist from Lane.

The Wildcats led 21-15 after a quarter of play and went on a scoring run in the 2nd. Starting guard Tristan Kacacek brought C-G-D back with a pair of threes, and Johnny Lomeli also connected from long distance. Humboldt’s shooters proved to be just as deadly, and the Wildcats were up 40-32 at halftime.

Lindaman and Huxley Lingenfelter helped the Cowboys cut the lead to three in the 3rd quarter, but Humboldt eventually pulled away for good. Kakacek hit two corner threes in the final minutes of the 65-56 loss.

Lane finished with 15 points, six boards, and two steals. Kakacek had a team-high 16 points and shot 86% from the field. Lingenfelter contributed nine points, nine rebounds, and four assists, and Morrical added five points and five assists off the bench.
