A former Eagle Grove police officer has been arrested following an investigation into allegations of misconduct involving a minor. The Wright County Attorney’s office has added another charge after their investigation.
According to a press release from the Wright County Attorney’s Office, Colt Allen Richardson was taken into custody on January 13, 2024.
Authorities say the investigation uncovered evidence of criminal violations both while he was on duty as a police officer and off duty.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has charged Richardson with Dissemination and Exhibition of Obscene Material to a Minor, a serious misdemeanor.
After reviewing the case, the Wright County Attorney’s Office added a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor, a Class D felony.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office carried out the arrest, with assistance from the DCI, the Eagle Grove Police Department, and the Wright County Attorney’s Office.

tement, “Any criminal charges are merely an accusation, and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.”
