Cowboys Celebrate Senior Night With Comeback Win

On Tuesday of last week, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team played the season’s final conference game at home against the 4-15 Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs. Six Cowboy seniors and their loved ones were recognized before tip off, and per Senior Night tradition, Coach Berning’s starting lineup consisted of five seniors.

The packed home bleachers applauded loudly as senior Christopher Revolorio’s floater bounced around the rim before finally falling in to give C-G-D their first two points. H-D-C wasted no time pounding the ball inside to 6’7” forward Brady Harr, and the Cowboys quickly brought in their usual starters.

Chaz Lane scored 14 off the bench in the 1st half and had a pretty assist to an open Bryce Lindaman. Ethan Hasty would nail a contested three early in the 2nd quarter, but Harr and the Bulldogs led 30-27 at halftime.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL opened the 3rd quarter with three consecutive three pointers. Hasty hit from deep again, but the Cowboys trailed by six with just eight minutes to play.

Midway into the 4th, Lane had a 9-0 personal scoring run highlighted by an athletic scoop layup and a steal that was followed by an old-fashioned three-point play. The usually reserved forward pumped his fist as the Cowboys took a 54-51 lead.

Down the stretch, Huxley Lingenfelter blocked a Harr shot attempt and the Cowboys turned it into a layup on the other end. Harr drilled a deep three to bring H-D-C within two, but Johnny Lomeli’s two clutch free throws served as the nail in the Bulldogs’ coffin as the Cowboys prevailed 62-58.

Lane finished with a career-high 36 points on 68% shooting from the field. He also pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out five assists.

Lindaman added 10 points, seven boards, and two steals, and Hasty and Lingenfelter had six points apiece.
