Wrestlers On Cloud Nine After Impressive Showing

On Saturday, the Cowboys continued their historic season by sending a school record nine wrestlers to Wells Fargo Arena. Nine individuals brought home district titles or runner-ups at the Class 2A, District 11 meet held at Webster City High School.

At 106-pounds, freshman Paxton Redenius had a fall and a decision before facing third-ranked Coy Mehler in the finals. Mehlert won the first place match by technical fall, but Redenius still earned a trip to state in his first year of high school wrestling.

Next, junior Angel Cortes pinned his way to the first place match and stamped his first ticket to state after finishing runner-up at 113. 

Top ranked 120-pounder Linden Phetxoumphone is now a three-time state qualifier after his silver medal performance in Hamilton County. Linden was defeated 4-1 in the finals by two-time state champion Brayden Bohnsack of Union.

Adrian Phetxoumphone captured an automatic bid after placing first at 126. The fifth-ranked sophomore won by fall, technical fall, and decision to improve his season record to 39-2. 

Colin Sesker won a district title at 144 after delivering a 9-2 decision in the finals. Sesker is a freshman phenom currently ranked fifth in all of 2A.

Caleb Seaba (157) will enjoy one last trip to the Well after securing two pins and a technical fall for his second straight district title. The senior placed 8th at state last year at 165 and is now a three-time qualifier. 

Ryland Morgan was the third Cowboy freshman to advance. He had two pins and a technical fall for the district title at 165.

Sophomore stud Charlie Campbell was the individual champion at 175. Campbell is ranked fifth in the state and holds a 40-3 record. He won 19-4 over Max Dalton in the first place bout.

JT Kelso had two pins at heavyweight for yet another Cowboy district title. Kelso is also a fifth-ranked sophomore and now sits at 37-5 ahead of state wrestling.  

The Cowboys won the district championship handily with a team score of 213.5 points. Second and third place went to Union (170) and Woodward-Granger (150.5). Webster City settled for fourth at home with 114.5 points.
