James Howieson, 89, of Clarion, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.<\/p>\n
Funeral services for James Howieson will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the United Presbyterian Church, 219 1st Street Northwest in Clarion, with Roger Kallem officiating. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.<\/p>\n
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
James Harvey Howieson, the son of James R. and Irene (Nelson) Howieson, was born on August 25, 1936, in Clarion, Iowa. He attended Clarion High School, where he graduated and proudly earned the title of State of Iowa Wrestling Champion in the 165-pound weight class in 1955.<\/p>\n
On June 24, 1956, Jim was united in marriage to Mary Mosher. The couple made their home on a farm near Clarion before later moving into town. Jim owned and operated a 66 Phillips filling station and tire shop, Jim\u2019s Tire, for more than 50 years. In addition to tires and fuel, Jim sold snowmobiles, Snapper lawn mowers, and Stihl chainsaws. His shop was well known as a gathering place for friends after work, sometimes to the point that if Jim came home too late for supper, his meal might already be headed down the garbage disposal.<\/p>\n
Deeply devoted to his community, Jim drove school bus for over 40 years and served as a volunteer firefighter for 36 years. During that time, he held the positions of Assistant Chief and Chief, roles he took on with great pride and dedication.<\/p>\n
In his free time, Jim enjoyed snowmobiling, watching the Indy 500, and spending time with his family hunting and fishing. He was a devoted and supportive father and grandfather who never missed an event. If one of his grandchildren needed help, especially with their car, Jim was always there in an instant.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his son Terry (Malinda) Howieson, four grandchildren Heath (Krissy) Anderson, Jesse (Brittany) Howieson, Casie (Mark) Pittman and Taylor (Austin) Keller; eight great-grandchildren: Levi Anderson, Ava Howieson, Lucy Anderson, Cooper Keller, Tucker Howieson, Harrison Keller, Wrenn Howieson and Harvey Keller; brother Darrell (Ruth) Howieson along with nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.<\/p>\n
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Howieson, daughter Chris Anderson, and siblings Verla Brooks, Lynn Howieson, Robert Howieson and Merle Howieson.<\/p>\n
