ELDORA – Grundy Center girls track and field led a trio of Register-area teams with a sixth-place team finish at the South Hardin Girls Invite on Friday, April 9.
The Spartans scored 69 points to finish in the middle of the 11-team pack. AGWSR was eighth with 48.5 points and BCLUW scored 45 points in ninth.
Spartan junior Dahlia Gardiner scored two bronze medals in the shot put and the long jump and was the anchor on the 4×100 team that placed fourth.
Grundy’s top relay finish was in the 4×400 as Bella Dole, Lucy Lebo, Laney Dole and Ellery Luhring finished third in 4:46.15.
AGWSR’s Abby Veld was second in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 2.5 inches, a new season-best for the freshman. The Cougars added another silver in the sprint medley with the team of Mady Mausser, Trinity Rotgers, Avery Lafrenz and Brynn Smith crossing the finish line in 2:03.58.
BCLUW’s Lizzie Garber won both of the individual hurdle events on Friday with a 16.35 time in the 100 hurdles and a 1:14.32 run in the 400 hurdles. She was also the anchor leg on the third-place shuttle hurdle team, finishing in 1:14.57 with teammates Kenna Paxson, Emma Averill and Anistyn Borsch-Rash running the first three legs.
