GRUNDY CENTER- The Grundy County Board of Supervisors discussed the process of soliciting quotes from private firms for audit services and possible uses for 12,000 yards of extra dirt as a result of the Grundy Road project during Monday morning’s regular meeting.
Due to frustration with the State Auditor’s office and complaints of higher costs and delayed results, Supervisor Vic Vandehaar led a conversation on seeking out bids from other firms. Fellow Supervisor Barb Smith then asked if the county should wait to see how this year’s audit goes now that the State Auditor’s office is aware of the concerns.
“How do you know what a fair price is unless you take bids? And that’s not to say we won’t stay with the state,” Vandehaar said.
The supervisors added that they would like to hire a firm with previous experience if they do choose to go in a different direction, and preferably one that’s relatively local or at least within Iowa. No official action was taken.
County Engineer Gary Mauer reported that a representative from PCI had approached him about the aforementioned dirt that could be used to improve some shoulders around the county. Mauer also noted that a county vehicle had been damaged recently and estimated that it could be repaired for about $2,000.
County Custodian Butch Kuester provided updates on the sprinkler system at the sheriff’s office and the possibility of an inspection and/or replacement as well as the courthouse bathrooms.
