GRUNDY CENTER- The Grundy County Board of Supervisors discussed a courthouse security report and some positive news on worker’s compensation claims during Monday morning’s regular meeting.
County Engineer Gary Mauer presented the report and noted some of the areas that the county fell short in, including the lack of a courthouse committee, a designated or backup security coordinator for each office and limiting public access to a single entrance. Mauer added that the report hadn’t been completed correctly in the past, and he believed that someone in the courthouse should oversee it going forward.
Ultimately, the board voted 5-0 to approve the report. During his portion of the meeting, Mauer then discussed the desire to purchase two motor graders next year instead of the customary one to keep ahead of the repairs and maintenance.
It was later reported during the meeting that worker’s compensation claims have been down substantially across the board, and the sheriff’s office hasn’t had a single claim so far this year. Supervisor Vic Vandehaar asked if there was any way to thank employees for keeping the costs down, and County Auditor Rhonda Deters responded that it would “mean a lot” for the supervisors to do that.
During board and committee reports, Supervisor Lucas Halverson provided a recap of the first annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon held on Sunday, which was attended by about 115 local veterans.
IN OTHER BUSINESS, the board:
· Approved a transfer of $262,227.68 from the Grundy Road general obligation proceeds to secondary roads fund.
· Approved a VISA credit application and authorized the chairperson to sign the same.
