Sigourney bests Lynnville-Sully in four sets
SULLY – The Sigourney volleyball team improved to 9-4 last week as they were able to best Lynnville-Sully 3-1.
The Savages were able to step off the bus and into a first set win, surviving a close battle with the Hawks, but winning 25-23. Lynnville-Sully took the second set 25-19, but Sigourney closed out the match with a 25-16 third set win and a 25-18 fourth set win.
Bailey Gretter and Addy Fineran led the Savages in kills. Gretter had 18, while Fineran added 10. Becca Gretter had 22 assists. Bailey Fretter led the team with 30 digs.
Keota falls to HLV-TC, bests Iowa Valley
KEOTA – The Eagles were able to split a pair of home matches last week.
On Sept. 15 tyhe Eagles started off with a match against HLV-TC, which they fell 3-1.
The Warriors were able to win the first set 25-17, but Keota battled back and won the second set 25-22.
For the rest of the match HLV-TC seemed to have the offense rolling. They won the third set 25-11 and finished the fourth set with a 25-13 win to take the overall match.
Olivia Lyle was able to lead the Eagles with seven kills. Jaylah Redlinger added six kills. Redlinger and Cameron Haifley both had 10 assists each.
The Eagles were able to gain a win on Sept. 18 against Iowa Valley. In that match the Eagles earned a 3-0 sweep.
Keota won the first set 25-10. In the second set they were able to win 25-16, before capping off the match with a 25-19 victory.
Olivia Lyle led her team with nine kills. Elyse Lyle had six kills. Redlinger finished with 14 assists. Addison Purkeypile had 10 digs.
English Valleys volleyball falls in pair of matches
NORTH ENGLISH – The home court advantage didn’t come through last week.
On Sept. 15 the Bears volleyball team fell 3-0 in a match against Montezuma. the Bravettes won the first set 25-9. The second set was won 25-11 and Montezuma won the third set 25-21.
On Sept. 18 the Bears fell to Belle Plaine in another 3-0 match. Belle Plaine battled to a 27-25 first set win. In the second set Belle Plaine won 25-16. The match ended with Belle Plaine winning the third set 25-23.
Overall the Bears are 6-8 on the season.
Panthers win five matches in busy week
PACKWOOD – The Panther volleyball team had a busy week that resulted in five victories last week.
Things started on Sept. 16 when the Panthers were able to best Highland 3-1. The Panthers won the first set 25-17, but fell in the second set 25-19. In the third set the Panthers survived a 26-24 win, before winning 25-19 in the fourth set.
On Sept. 18 the Panthers battled Hillcrest Academy, but fell 3-2. The Panthers won the first set 25-21. Hillcrest Academy won the second set 25-15. Pekin won the third set 25-20. Hillcrest Academy won the fourth set 25-18. The Ravens won the fifth set 15-13.
The Panthers would get their revenge over Hillcrest on Saturdy when the two teams met in the final of the Cardinal volleyball tournament.
In the championship match Pekin won 2-1. The Panthers won the first set 25-20, but Hillcrest took the second set 25-17. Pekin won the third set 15-13.
Earlier in the tournament the Panthers beat Louisa-Muscatine 2-0 with a 25-18 and a 25-19 victory.
The Panthers also won another match against Highland. This time they won 25-9 and 25-13 over the Huskies. Against Moulton-Udell the Panthers won 25-17 and 25-13.
Overall the Panthers stand at 7-9 on the season.
