PACKWOOD – Linda Brock, a retired school administrator, is running for the District 5 (Packwood) seat on the Pekin School Board.
“My intention is to help the district in any way possible. I’m a long time school administrator, retired, and have been on both sides of the aisle, and feel that I have some knowledge and experience that could help the district move forward. I mean, I love kids. I’ve always been working with children and my goal is to make Pekin the best district we can,” Brock told the News-Review.
Brock spent years working as a superintendent at Fort Dodge. Prior to that, she worked as a superintendent at Fort Madison and worked for the Great Prairie and Mississippi Bend AEAs. She moved to the area in 2014. Brock has two grandsons who attend the school, as well as a granddaughter who graduated two years ago.
“My ultimate question in anything that’s occurring is, how will this benefit the students of this district?” Brock said.
Brock referred to the loss of student enrollment as a challenge that Pekin and all small schools are facing. She stated that, if Pekin is going to be viable in ten years, they need to promote the district, improve everything they do, and get positive word out to the community and surrounding communities to bring students to the school, instead of losing them to other districts.
“I’ve been in education for a really long time, and I feel I’m a good listener,” Brock said. “We need to listen to the constituents of this community, as well as the students, and do everything we can within our power to bring them the best possible education that is available today.”
