SIGOURNEY – During the Dec. 3 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, the council looked over bids the planned water tower rehabilitation. The proposed project will sand blast, remove paint, and then paint both the inside and outside of the water tower. The city received 13 bids, raging in cost from $308,500 to $628,000. The council approved the project specifications, but tabled approving a bid, to give time to look over the different bids.
Also at the Wednesday meeting, City Clerk Ashley Fry explained that, due to miscommunication, the city received an unexpected bill from Mahaska Communication Group. The council approved setting aside up to $2,500 out of LOSST for this and other MCG work in Fiscal Year 2026; this will be budgeted under Fiscal Year 2027, which will have $5,000 set aside for MCG work. The city will not pay MCG until they are contacted to fix issues.
The council approved updating the Deputy City Clerk Job Description to contain duties formerly handled by the City Administrative Assistant, a position eliminated earlier this year. The council also approved a 50 cent per hour raise for Deputy Clerk Kadie Conrad, due to her updated job description.
