HARPER—James “Jim” Mc Nurlen, age 80, of rural Harper, died peacefully Saturday, December 27, 2025, at his home.
Jim was born November 29, 1945, in Washington, Iowa, the son of William and Dorothy “Evelyn” (Kleinschmidt) Mc Nurlen and graduated from Keota High School. On April 30, 1967, he married Donna Haugen at the Sigourney United Methodist Church. The couple lived in rural Harper where Jim sold Super Sweet feed and knives for many years. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, selling knives, raising livestock and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: Donna of Harper; two sons: Joseph “Joe” Mc Nurlen of Houston, Missouri and Jason “Jake” (Sonia) Mc Nurlen of Sigourney; six grandchildren: Chelsea, Brianna (Jon), Justin, Shawn, Preston and Madison; five great grandchildren: Kolby, Liam, Calli, Cordell and Kaier; two brothers: Dick (Janis) Mc Nurlen of Keota and Charlie (Linda) Mc Nurlen of Carlyle, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
According to Jim’s wishes, his body will be cremated and no services are planned at this time. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
