SIGOURNEY – The first month of 2025 featured at least one very special night.
On Jan. 21 Sigourney hosted Keota in a late-season basketball game that proved to be more than just a regular game.
In both the boys and girls game something happened that would rewrite the record books.
The girls game proved to be another Sigourney win as they were able to pull away with a 68-44 victory over their friendly foes to the east. What was more impressive that night was the fact that senior Jospehine Moore was able to set a new school record.
On that night in January Moore would score 41 points and grab 11 rebounds. That night her 11 rebounds helped Moore set a new career rebounds record. The 11 rebounds that Moore secured gave her the record, which she would continue to build upon until the end of the season.
Moore’s record breaking game wasn’t the only record that was set that night.
In the boys game the Sigourney boys won 62-55, grabbing their first win over the Eagles since 2022, but only their second since 2018.
While the win was historic in that sense, what was more historic was the fact that both a Keota player and a Sigourney player set a new record that night.
For Keota, Billie Kindred was able to finish the game with 24 points and 14 rebounds. That gave him the Keota boys school record for most rebounds in a career.
On the Sigourney side Isaac Bruns would finish the game with 13 points and three rebounds. That allowed Bruns to pass the 1,000 point mark in his career. He is one of a very short list of Sigourney boys basketball players that have passed the 1,000 point mark. He may be the only Sigourney boys basketball player that has scored 1,000 points in a career.
