 SIGOURNEY – They have had the rematch circled on their calendar since the 12th of December.
Whenever a team breaks an 11-year streak, it is hard not to be motivated for the rematch. Although it was a busy week for the Sigourney girls, their main focus was on the Friday night game against Keota.
After Keota bested Sigourney 66-52 earlier in the season, the Savages went into Friday night’s game determined to get some revenge.
They would with a 60-54 victory over the Eagles.
Sigourney led 32-23 at halftime, but Keota answered back with a 20-point third quarter to close up the contest.
In the final eight minutes both teams traded the lead, but Sigourney used the home court advantage to gain the extra boost that they would eventually use to gain a 60-54 victory.
Brynn Clarahan finished with a team-high 25 points in the game. She also had nine rebounds. Bailey Gretter added 14 points while Becca Gretter added eight points. Carli Smothers finished with six points in the win.
Keota was led by Cameron Haifley who added 20 points. Kennedy Jackson added 12 points and Emily Conger finished with nine points in the game.
Earlier in the week Sigourney had picked up a 56-23 win over Belle Plaine. By halftime in that contest the Savages led 34-10.
The start of the week wasn’t what the Savages were looking for as they fell 64-34 on Tuesday night to undefeated and No. 5 ranked Lynnville-Sully. The Savages trailed 28-15 at halftime, but a 36 second half helped the Hawks pull away with the win.
Saturday night the Savages were bested 71-56 by Highland. The Savages held pace with Highland through most of the game, but a 17-9 run by Highland in the second quarter proved to be the difference.
Overall the Savages stand at 12-6 on the season. they host HLV-TC on Tuesday night and then will play against Moravia on Thursday night.
