The Tri-County Ag classes are buzzing!

By Andy Thomas, Owner of Thomas Hometown Harvest

Thomas Hometown Harvest recently partnered up with the Ag Mechanics class at Tri-County to help bridge the gap between life skills and business.  Thomas Hometown Harvest is looking to expand the number of honey bee colonies that they raise.  One way to do that is to catch local swarms.  After discussing the building instructions with Ag instructor, Sierra Latcham, it was decided that this would be an awesome opportunity for collaboration between a local business and students.  The students were tasked with creating a prototype, creating a material list and pitching a cost analysis to Andy and Nikki Thomas, owners of THH.

After taking several factors into consideration, a final building plan was created and the work began.  Students measured, cut, assembled and tested the products.  When all was said and done, the students had created 9 honey bee swarm boxes and they are ready to be placed in the area this spring.  Members of the Ag class include Hailey Brackelsberg, Aubrey Zittergruen, Hunter Brackelsberg and Sullivan Stanley.  Thomas Hometown Harvest hopes this is the first of many projects coordinated between them and Mrs. Sierra Latcham’s classes at Tri-County.
