As the season closes in on district play, the Cowboys are having trouble putting something good together to carry them into the postseason. Last week saw a couple nights of some offense, only not near enough to produce any wins.
Monday had them visiting Webster City and losing 12-0 to the Lynx. Cael Chase had the lone connection for a base hit, and was also tagged with the loss on the hill. He allowed eight earned runs on nine hits with four walks. Mateo Martinez and Kaleb King also saw pitching duty, throwing one strikeout each.
They went to Garner on Tuesday and lost 16-6 to the home Cardinals. After plating five of their runs in the second frame, the visitors couldn’t hold the home team down as they had a 13 total run outburst between the fourth and fifth innings combined. Martinez went 3 of 3 with a double, while C. Chase was 2 of 3 with a triple and three runs driven in. Porter Chase brought in two RBI. Porter gave up just five earned on four hits over three innings with a strikeout.
They lost 14-8 on Wednesday to Clear Lake in a home contest. C. Chase and Thane Jackson smacked a double each to lead at the plate, with King throwing the bulk of the game and making two K’s over five innings with seven earned allowed on 10 hits.
They lost 12-3 at Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday in a make-up game. Gardner, Jackson and Bjorklund all pounded out a single each for the only hits, which scored Foss, C. Chase and Gardner. C. Chase drew a walk, while P. Chase and C. Chase were each hit by pitches. Gardner and Allen both reached on an error, while P. Chase and Foss stole a base.
