Cowgirls Host Home Meet

On April 14, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track and field team hosted eleven other schools at the annual Cowgirl Relays. 

Eagle Grove, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, and Iowa Falls-Alden competed in Class A against CGD.

West Fork, West Hancock, Pocahontas Area, North Iowa, St. Edmond, and Belmond-Klemme all battled in Class B. 

“The outdoor track season got off to a strong start at the Cowgirl Relays, where favorable weather and determined performances highlighted the meet,” long-time track and field coach and first-year Cowgirl head coach Craig Warnke told the Monitor.  “Coming off the indoor season, the team showed its progress, with many athletes recording personal bests across multiple events.”

Addy Howell was CGD’s top placer.  She tied for second in the high jump after clearing 4’8”.  Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Madison Heilskov won the event with a jump of 4’10”.

“Fourth-place honors went to Lea Charlson in the discus, the 4×800-meter relay team, and Samantha Seaba in the 1,500-meter run,” Warnke added.  “Additional athletes contributed valuable points, helping round out a successful team effort.” 

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows placed fifth in Class A with 45 team points.  Forest City (200), Garner-Hayfield-Ventura (141), Iowa Falls-Alden (75.5), and Hampton-Dumont-CAL (69) were also in the top-five. 

“Overall, the meet marked a promising beginning to the outdoor season, with strong performances and a positive outlook setting the tone for the weeks ahead,” Warnke said.
