Lois Jurlaine (Torkelson) Christopher, the daughter of Jacob and Amy (Warland) Torkelson, was born on January 30, 1931, on the family farm in Humboldt County, Iowa. She was raised in the area of her birth, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1950 with her sister Pearl, who she has remained especially close throughout her life.
On March 1, 1953, Lois was united in marriage with Richard “Dick” Christopher at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple then moved to his family farm near Thor. Dick preceded her in death on June 1, 2011.
Lois was an active long-time member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church.
Lois enjoyed many years of babysitting and attending the events and concerts of her many nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered for her best ever kringla, potato cakes and love of crocheting.
Lois passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, at the age of 94 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Nina Abrams, Beverly Bowen, Naomi Torkelson and Esther Presler; brothers, Steve and Arnold; sisters-in-law, Darlene Torkelson and Paula Torkelson and brothers-in-law, Mel Lehman, Cecil Pedersen, Ralph Bowen, Keith Presler and Mike Abrams.
Lois is survived brothers and sisters: Pearl Pedersen of Humboldt, Jean Lehman of Eagle Grove, Ruby and Don Thompson of Marshfield, WI, Russell and Loralee Torkelson of Hackensack, MN, David and Carol Torkelson of Eagle Grove and Bruce and Mary Torkelson of Gilmore City; sister-in-law, Mildred Torkelson of Humboldt and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation was Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial was in East Ullensvang Cemetery in Thor.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
