The Eagle Grove boys wrestling team began their 2025-26 season with a triangular in Central Springs that included Forest City last Thursday night.
The #10 (1A) Central Springs Panthers narrowly defeated Eagle Grove, 37-34.
Ethan Schreiber (113), Keegan Eisentrager (138), Colson Schafer (144), and Hayden Schafer (157) all picked up wins vs. Central Springs, and Kylar Sisson (126), Jackson Babcock (150) and Reece Demuth (215) all won their matches by fall.
Against Forest City, freshman Kylar Sisson picked up another win at 126.
Babcock, Hayden Schafer, Hunter Waldo-Martinez (132), and Christian Schild (190) all notched individual victories and a come from behind pin by Demuth helped lead the Eagles to a 41-33 win.
After the triangular, Coach Aaron Schafer credited his “young guys” who “really showed up and scored points for the team.”
The team had to recover quickly, because the next day they were in Humboldt facing eleven other schools at the Joe Fitch Invitational.

Humboldt won their home meet with a team score of 245.5, but the Eagles weren’t far behind and placed 2nd with 214. Forest City (211.5), Creston (188), and Sheldon South O’Brien (178) would round out the Top-5.
Dylan Terwilliger had two tech falls and a major decision on his way to gold at 126 lbs. in Humboldt.
Junior Jackson Babcock, up a few weight classes from 132 a year ago, dominated at 150 with a decision and three straight pins.

Two-time state qualifier Hayden Schafer made quick work of his opponents at 157 with three falls and a technical fall.
After the team’s runner-up finish in Humboldt, Coach Schafer said there were “some early season mistakes,” but called it, “overall a good first week of wrestling.”
