The Sigourney-Keota boys bowling team delivered a robust performance at the State qualifier meet on Monday, Feb. 16 at Arrowhead Lanes in Keokuk. The qualifier meet involves eight Class 1A boys’ teams from around the area with only the top team advancing, and includes 46 individual bowlers, with only the top four individuals moving on to state.

Overall, S-K had a powerful showing, finishing second overall in a tightly contested match-up. S-K posted a total of 2,983 pins, finishing just 28 pins behind first-place Louisa-Muscatine’s 3,011. Louisa-Muscatine and S-K dominated the meet with all other teams falling over 300 pins behind them.

The standout story came on the individual side, where brothers Owen Clark and Wells Clark earned State berths. This marks senior Wells Clark’s second time qualifying for State, having also earned a state spot as a sophomore in 2024. Owen Clark, a junior, led SK with a high game of 245 and a dominant performance, pacing the team and earning his first trip to the State tournament.

With the state qualifier complete, Owen and Wells Clark will represent Sigourney-Keota at the Class 1A State Bowling Championships on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo, competing as two of 32 top Class 1A individual bowlers from across the state.

“Wells’ experience and Owen’s determination make them a strong duo” said Coach Austin Bruns. “It should be exciting to see what they can do at state.”
