Cowboys End Week With Non-Conference Wins

After dropping both games of a doubleheader earlier in the week to their conference opponents from Algona, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team bounced back in a big way with a Thursday victory over West Bend-Mallard and a Friday night win at home against North Iowa.

Freshman Caleb Sweeney earned the win on the mound against West Bend-Mallard after striking out two, walking three, and allowing just four hits in six innings pitched.  He also smacked a three-run double in the 1st inning to break the game open and give C-G-D an early 5-1 advantage.

The Cowboys went on to have a monster 3rd inning and triumphed 13-7 over the visiting Wolverines.  Shortstop Ethan Hasty and right fielder Paxton Lingenfelter both had two singles and three stolen bases apiece in the win.

It was more of the same in Friday night’s 18-3 non-conference rout of the North Iowa Bison.  Catcher Kolton Hefti contributed to the Cowboy cause by hitting a double and a single to bring home four runners, and second baseman Tristan Kakacek hit a double and stole three bags.  Ryland Morgan added a double and three RBIs, and Jacob Ruba struck out three and walked none in four innings of work.

The Cowboys hold a 3-4 record overall, but are still on the hunt for their first North Central Conference win of the season.
