Last week, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys track and field team competed in meets in Hampton, Belmond, and Pocahontas.
Monday night, they finished seventh in the Bulldog Invitational with 61 points.
Middle-distance man Logan Torsell came in fourth in the open-800 after clocking a time of 2:18.14, and Huxley Lingenfelter earned fourth in discus with a toss of 142’11”.

Tuesday in Belmond, CGD placed eighth with 53 team points.
Huxley Lingenfelter discus throw of 135’9” was enough for second place. North Iowa’s Cale Lorenzen threw for first (138’11”).
Torsell’s time of 2:13.16 earned him a fourth place finish in a competitive open-800 field. Torsell’s PR this season is around 2:12.

“The team had a great week last week,” first year Head Coach Cory Yoder told the Monitor. “The distance medley team of Maxton Downing, Jared Hernandez, Paxton Lingenfelter, and Logan Torsell won back-to-back races at the Bulldog Relays and Bronco Relays with a season best time of 3:54.13 and finished second at the Poky Relays this past Friday night.”

“The 4×1 team and sprint medley team of Maxton Downing, Colin Sesker, Jared Hernandez, and Paxton Lingenfelter set season best times at the Bronco relays in 1:41 and 45.6,” Yoder continued. “The shuttle hurdle team (Eduardo Rivera, Huxley Lingenfelter, Paxton Lingenfelter, and Daven Duncalf) has been on a good roll as well finishing second twice this past week, and Brian Tevalan Ajtun has been improving each week in the high jump. He cleared 5’6” just last week while barely missing out on 5’8”.”
Friday night in Pocahontas, Huxley Lingenfelter would be CGD’s lone champion.

“Huxley has been lighting it up in the discus [this season], winning the Manson Relays with a throw of 153’11” and winning the Poky Relays this past Friday,” Coach Yoder commented. “He has a season best throw of 155’9”, which he accomplished at Clear Lake, just missing out on a trip to the Drake Relays.”
Torsell made a move in the last 200-meters of his open-800 race and placed second overall in a time of 2:13.79. Storm Lake’s Heath Kampbell was first in 2:12.77. Torsell also anchored the second place finishing distance medley relay.
As a team, CGD placed fourth with 66.5 points. Storm Lake (177), Humboldt (158.5), and Webster City (112) finished ahead of the Cowboys.
Like all schools in the area, the Cowboys had to deal with uncooperative weather earlier in their outdoor season, so Coach Yoder was just pleased his boys had the opportunity to get out and compete three times in five days last week.
“With three meets being canceled [this season], it’s been frustrating,” Yoder admitted.
“But the kids are improving each meet,” he added. “We are such a young team with 15 freshman, six sophomores and six juniors. We’re competing each meet with some of the top competition, and I’m super proud of our kids.”
The team will travel to Roland-Story on Thursday after a Tuesday, April 28 meet at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.
