Tristan Kakacek has a name that often gives opposing public address announcers fits, but it’s his game that truly frustrates North Central Conference pitchers far and wide.
Before the season, the junior said his goals were to have an “above .250 batting average and get to ten wins” as a team.
Mission accomplished, and then some!
Kakacek’s .299 batting average was the second highest on the team and the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys reached ten victories after knocking off Eagle Grove 11-4 in the first round of Class 2A, Substate 7 play.
The leadoff hitter boasted team-highs in doubles (4), stolen bases (20), runs (23) and walks (26). He also tied Chaz Lane for the second most RBI on the squad with 14 and held a .919 fielding percentage at second base.
That’s not too shabby for a player who came into the season without a whole lot of varsity games under his belt.
To top it all off, Tristan was recently selected for the North Central Conference’s All-Conference Third Team.
“I was a little surprised when I got it,” Kakacek admitted when asked about the honor. “There are a ton of good baseball players in the conference.”
He is one of those “good baseball players” now, but Tristan still plans to achieve more.
“My goals for next season are to hit over .400 and to get to 15 wins as a team,” Kakacek concluded.
