The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team battled three area foes last week, and junior Huxley Lingenfelter went off for a double-double on back-to-back nights.

Monday evening in Clarion, the boys overcame rival Belmond-Klemme (8-4 overall) to win their sixth straight.
In the 1st quarter, Paxton Lingenfelter scored four quick points in the flow of the game, and JD Morrical’s hard-nosed defense turned into CGD offense.
Morrical would hit a go-ahead three to give the Cowboys a two-point advantage.
A Tristan Kakacek triple highlighted a 9-0 Cowboy run to begin the 2nd quarter. The pesky Broncos kept closed throughout the quarter, but forward Chaz Lane cashed in a buzzer-beating putback to give CGD a 37-33 lead at half.
Lane had an old-fashioned three-point play in the 3rd, and Huxley Lingenfelter really started to feel his jump shot. Huxley finished with a season-high 27 points on 69% shooting. He also had 11 rebounds and 2 steals.

The Cowboys maintained a comfortable cushion and triumphed, 76-63.

Paxton Lingenfelter finished with 18 points, 7 boards, and 2 assists. Lane added 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots.
Morrical chipped in 10 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Kakacek scored 5 in the win.
A night later, the Cowboys’ winning streak finally came to the end on the road against Humboldt (7-5 overall, 3-3 conference).
The Wildcats led 36-26 at the half and eventually won, 66-53, to avenge their December 12 loss in Clarion.
Huxley Lingenfelter went off for another double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Morrical scored 11, and Johnny Lomeli dropped in 5 off the bench.
Lane contributed 18 and 6 with a block. He shot 80% from the field.
After a day off, the Cowboys were in Fort Dodge on Thursday to face (1A) #1 St. Edmond (12-2 overall, 7-1 conference).
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows led briefly early on, but the experienced Gaels outlasted them and won, 80-49.
Huxley Lingenfelter scored a team-high 14, and Lane added 13 points, 3 blocks, and 2 assists.

After a Tuesday, January 27 contest against (3A) #2 Clear Lake (9-1 overall, 6-0 conference), the Cowboys (9-4 overall, 4-4 conference) will face Hampton-Dumont-CAL (5-8 overall, 3-4 conference) on Thursday.
