A week ago, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls golf team hosted meets on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and the team had a meet medalist on all three days!

In a head-to-head against Southeast Valley at Goldfield’s Oakridge Golf Course on Monday afternoon, junior Blaire Askelsen was victorious after scoring a 50 through nine holes and a 14 over par for the day.

Senior Claire Kirstein placed third with a score of 54, and sophomore Jada Weets finished with a 64.

However, the visiting Jaguars narrowly edged out CGD, 235-237.

Askelsen enjoyed another winning finish the next afternoon, this time at Clarmond Country Club.  She fashioned a low score of 48 in the triangular vs. Iowa Falls-Alden and Charles City.

Kirstein had a 58.  Weets (70) and Quinn Brooks (75) also scored, bringing the Cowgirl total to 251.

Iowa Falls-Alden earned the team title with 215 points, followed by Charles City’s score of 227.

Back in Goldfield on Friday in a North Central Conference triangular vs. Webster City and Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Kirstein had her turn at the top and beat out the field with an impressive score of 53.

Askelsen shot a 58, and Weets (62) and Tess Wibholm (63) brought CGD’s final tally to 236, good enough for second place behind the Lynx and their winning score of 217.

“Blaire and Claire have played well,” CGD Head Coach Ashley Kahler told The Monitor.  “It’s not easy to come out on top, even on your home course, so that’s something we’re especially proud of.”

“On Friday, we saw a big step forward for Tess, who turned in her best round of the season,” Kahler continued.  “It’s great to see her hard work paying off and her confidence growing on the course.  Jada and Quinn have also been playing well, consistently contributing solid scores. Avery [Fiscus] has also shown improvement.  The ladies have shown good course management and stayed patient.”

“We have a huge week coming up with some 18-hole meets and a lot of golf in this next week,” Coach Kahler added.  “I’m excited to see how the girls will answer the challenge.”
