Lingenfelter Helps Lead Cowboys Past Lynx

C-G-D’s familiar foes from Hamilton County were in town last Friday for what turned into a “can’t miss” night of North Central Conference basketball. The two teams were deadlocked after a quarter of play, but the Cowboys controlled the pace in the next two quarters and quelled a late Lynx comeback attempt.

Huxley Lingenfelter and Johnny Lomeli both converted from distance in the 2nd quarter to give the Cowboys a 20-15 lead. C-G-D’s interior shots weren’t falling, but Tristan Kakacek shooting prowess gave the boys a huge boost off the bench. The guard netted a three-pointer, stole the ball from Webster City, and hit another triple thanks to a favorable bounce. Just before halftime, Kakacek made the Lynx defense pay for leaving him open. He buried a corner three and C-G-D hit the locker room with an eight-point advantage.

After a cold start by his standards, Chaz Lane dialed up his intensity in the 2nd half. The lanky forward scored six quick points and boldly rejected a Webster City shooter. The Lynx began to cut into their deficit, but a Lomeli three made it 46-41 after three quarters.

Lingenfelter had a putback and corner three early in the 4th, but Webster City stayed within two. The game was closer than it needed to be, but Clarion-Goldfield-Dows played hard till the final buzzer and walked away with a 57-56 victory in front of their home fans.

Lingenfelter finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Lane dropped 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and recorded two steals and a block. Lomeli hit three triples on his way to 13 points, and Kakacek added nine points and a team-high four steals.

Bryce Lindaman scooped up 14 rebounds for the Cowboys. Sophomore JD Morrical dished out six assists in the win.
