Lake Mills community approves renewal of voted PPEL

By Chris Rogne, Superintendent of Lake Mills Community Schools

We are excited to share that our community has approved the renewal of the voted Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL) for the Lake Mills Community School District! We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone who asked questions, provided feedback, and supported this important measure. Your engagement makes a meaningful difference for our students and staff.

The PPEL provides essential funding for items beyond the regular budget, including building maintenance, roof repairs, equipment, student technology, buses, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Our high school, built in 1926, will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary. Thanks to the PPEL, we’ve been able to make significant improvements over the years. Looking ahead, priority projects include upgrading the high school gym HVAC system (air conditioning) in the summer of 2026.  Looking out a little further, replacing our aging steam boiler system, a multimillion-dollar project that will improve efficiency, comfort, and reliability for students and staff is a project that needs to be completed as the components of the current system are beyond their useful life.

Importantly, this renewal will not increase property taxes. The levy continues through 2039 at $1.34 per $1,000 of taxable property value, allowing the district to plan for major projects while continuing routine maintenance like brick tuckpointing, roof replacements, and bus fleet updates.

As superintendent, it is my goal to be a good steward of the district’s resources, ensuring that our facilities are well-maintained to support student learning today and into the future.

On behalf of the school board and staff, we are deeply grateful for a community that cares so passionately about its schools. Your support ensures safe, modern, and effective learning environments for Bulldogs now and for generations to come.
